Overview

Participants work on projects with real practical value, side by side with industry professionals, following intensive and fast-paced daily schedules that mirror real creative workflows. Each week, every student completes two projects in two different design disciplines, guided by two different instructors Students have only three days to complete each project, encouraging focus, teamwork, and time management Days are structured and disciplined, reflecting professional design environments Core rules include: Mandatory morning physical warm-up Attendance at shared dinners On-time project submissions Respect and care for shared living and working spaces This structure helps students develop responsibility, resilience, and professional habits.

Highlights

Design in Town is a 2- or 3-week international summer design camp for high school students, created as an intensive career orientation program in design and creative disciplines. Participants work on real-world design projects alongside experienced design professionals, architects, and tutors. Each week, students complete multiple hands-on projects across different design fields, allowing them to explore their skills, interests, and personal motivation. Teachers, tutors, and students collaborate in a dynamic and supportive learning environment focused on growth, feedback, and experimentation. The program aims to help students make informed decisions about future studies and creative careers. Design in Town is supported by leading cultural and educational institutions, including: IED – Istituto Europeo di Design, USI Academy of Architecture (Università della Svizzera Italiana), Accademia di Belle Arti Aldo Galli – IED Network, Triennale Milano, Fondazione Cologni Mestieri d’Arte, and Fondazione Castiglioni.

Location

Troia is a charming medieval town in southern Italy, located in the Sub-Apennine Dauno region of Puglia, with approximately 6,400 inhabitants. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and rich cultural heritage, Troia offers an authentic Italian setting ideal for focused learning and creative inspiration. Among its architectural highlights are the Romanesque Cathedral of Troia and the former San Domenico Monastery, which hosts the camp’s main activities and workshops.
